By the Flooring Data TeamUpdated September 2026How we calculate
What does LVP cost per square foot installed in 2026?
Across our three quality tiers, LVP installs for $4.55–$15.40 per square foot all-in. That one number bundles four things: the plank itself, underlayment or moisture barrier, installation labor, and a trim-and-transitions allowance. Economy product in a simple room sits near the bottom of the range; premium plank, pattern layouts, and fussy rooms push toward the top. These are installed estimates, not quotes — a fair-price check against a real bid is the last step.
How do labor and materials split by quality tier?
The tier moves the plank price far more than it moves the labor bill. Here is the full split at 1,000 sq ft, straight from our rate model — the “other” column is underlayment plus the trim allowance, and every total shows the math:
| Tier | Materials $/sq ft | Labor $/sq ft | Other $/sq ft | All-in $/sq ft | 1,000 sq ft total (math) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Economy | $2.00–$3.25 | $2.00–$3.00 | $0.55–$2.40 | $4.55–$8.65 | 1,000 × $4.55–$8.65 = $4,550–$8,650 |
| Standard | $3.88–$5.13 | $3.50–$4.50 | $0.55–$2.40 | $7.93–$12.03 | 1,000 × $7.93–$12.03 = $7,925–$12,025 |
| Premium | $5.75–$7.00 | $5.00–$6.00 | $0.55–$2.40 | $11.30–$15.40 | 1,000 × $11.30–$15.40 = $11,300–$15,400 |

What does LVP cost at common room sizes?
Same rate model, sized up. Each row multiplies the all-in per-square-foot range by the room size — the math is shown so you can re-run it for any room:
| Size | All-in $/sq ft | Installed total (math) |
|---|---|---|
| 300 sq ft | $4.58–$15.42 | 300 × $4.58–$15.42 = $1,375–$4,625 |
| 500 sq ft LVP cost | $4.55–$15.40 | 500 × $4.55–$15.40 = $2,275–$7,700 |
| 700 sq ft | $4.54–$15.39 | 700 × $4.54–$15.39 = $3,175–$10,775 |
| 1,000 sq ft LVP cost | $4.55–$15.40 | 1,000 × $4.55–$15.40 = $4,550–$15,400 |
| 1,500 sq ft | $4.55–$15.40 | 1,500 × $4.55–$15.40 = $6,825–$23,100 |
| 2,000 sq ft LVP cost | $4.55–$15.40 | 2,000 × $4.55–$15.40 = $9,100–$30,800 |

What adds to the installed price?
The base range assumes a clean, flat subfloor and no demolition. Three add-ons move real budgets, and our engine carries a constant for each — anything we cannot price from the model, we leave out rather than guess:
| Add-on | $/sq ft | At 1,000 sq ft (math) |
|---|---|---|
| Old-flooring removal & haul-away Tear-out, scraping, and hauling the existing floor | $0.50–$2.00 | 1,000 × $0.50–$2.00 = $500–$2,000 |
| Subfloor repair / leveling Plywood patching or self-leveler for uneven subfloors | $1.00–$3.00 | 1,000 × $1.00–$3.00 = $1,000–$3,000 |
| Trim & transitions Transition strips, thresholds, and finishing trim | $0.25–$0.90 | 1,000 × $0.25–$0.90 = $250–$900 |
Engine constants only — items without a modeled rate (furniture moving, disposal fees) are omitted. Full list on the hidden flooring costs page.
How does LVP compare per square foot?
Same engine, same 500 sq ft example, four materials — the fair comparison is all-in rates, not shelf prices:
| Material | All-in $/sq ft | 500 sq ft (math) |
|---|---|---|
| Luxury vinyl plank | $4.55–$15.40 | 500 × $4.55–$15.40 = $2,275–$7,700 |
| Laminate | $4.55–$14.40 | 500 × $4.55–$14.40 = $2,275–$7,200 |
| Hardwood | $10.55–$32.40 | 500 × $10.55–$32.40 = $5,275–$16,200 |
| Ceramic tile | $5.55–$18.40 | 500 × $5.55–$18.40 = $2,775–$9,200 |

What we don’t know
Our model does not price brand-name SKUs, local market surges, or stair labor (per-step pricing is a different math than per-square-foot), and no honest per-sq-ft model can see your subfloor. Treat every number here as a range to sanity-check bids against — not a quote.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much is LVP per square foot installed?▼
Luxury vinyl plank installs for about $4.55–$15.40 per square foot all-in, per our Sept 2026 rate model. That bundles the plank itself, underlayment, labor, and a trim allowance across economy-to-premium tiers. Materials-only runs less; removal and subfloor prep are priced separately.
How much does labor cost to install vinyl plank?▼
Labor to install LVP runs about $2.00–$6.00 per square foot depending on tier — roughly $2,000–$6,000 on a 1,000 sq ft job. Complex layouts, stairs, and demo push labor toward the high end.
Is materials or labor more of an LVP budget?▼
It is close, and the tier decides. At economy grade, materials and labor each cost about $2.00 and $2.00 per square foot respectively; at premium grade materials run to $7.00 while labor reaches $6.00. The split table above shows every combination.
What does 2,000 sq ft of LVP cost installed?▼
A 2,000 sq ft LVP install runs about $9,100–$30,800 installed (Sept 2026 model), or $4.55–$15.40 per square foot. Removal of an old floor and subfloor prep are extra — see the add-on table for those rates.
